Have you have tried to start a fire without a lighter before? It can be challenging. The good news is with the right tools, it can be done!

Just imagine relaxing by the fire catching all that heat…you can make it happen. Let’s look at the easiest way to light a fire without a lighter or matches.

  • Flint and steel

Gerber Bear Grylls Fire Starter

This is the easiest way to light a fire without a lighter or matches. You can order your own flint and steel from the link above. First you need to gather some things before you can start.

  • Twigs
  • Furry fire starter
  • Dead pine

I put these items where I’m going to build my fire. I begin with the furry fire starter. This can also be some thin strips of birch. Use the flint and steel to make a spark into the starter. When you see it is on fire, give it a little oxygen and add some twigs on top. Be careful not to smother the flame. These twigs should be double the size of tooth picks. You have to be patient with this process. Add pine.
Eventually when the fire gets big enough you can add larger sticks and finally logs. Once you have mastered how to build a fire, you have gained a life long survival skill that may even save your life.

The picture above is a little project I did to start a fire recently. I took very dry pine sticks and wrapped it in birch bark. In the center I added a lot of pine sap. This was overkill in the photo, not much is needed because it’s very flammable. This thing went up like a Christmas tree! Thanks for reading. Leave a comment if I helped!
